Outline

This course follows from the introductory session for real beginners in computing. You will learn how to manipulate the mouse and then about the keyboard and its special keys. Six places are reserved for new members who attended the Introductory session last week. Others may join if there are spare places.

Background

Those who already know the keyboard from their typist days have a real head start!

Topics Covered Include

• Revision of the Boot up process using the operating system the student uses.
• The desktop, the Start menu and Shut down procedure
• The mouse functions and the different mouse pointers
• Basic Microsoft window formats and manipulation of these windows.
• A basic look at the internet using Google
• Navigation of web-pages with the mouse.
• The mouse I Beam
• The Insertion point/Cursor used in all text editing programs
• Some special keys on the keyboard
• Selecting text and deleting it
• the Undo command

Skills Required

All that is necessary is a keen will to learn and enjoy the fun one can have with a computer.

Hardware Required

A computer running WindowsXP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. For conditions today, it is recommended that your computer has 2 GB RAM

Software Required

There are many different ways a computer can be set up. To make your learning curve easier, SNEB has a specification for software and settings which we encourage you to use.
